Performers' Showcase Bag of Tricks

To get an early start on your 2005 "Dragons, Dreams & Daring Deeds" program, consider booking performers to enliven your special events. We hope this listing of nearly 100 performers will be helpful. Please let us know if you have additions to the list or comments about performers at your events.

Entertainment Checklist

  1. Send all appropriate paperwork to the entertainer: Confirmation letter, map to library, W-9 for, if needed, invoice if needed, anything else? Do you pay the day of the show or after?

  2. Check with performer on sales of books, CD's. etc.: is that permitted at your library? Will performer take care of the (he should not expect you to do it), do you want someone form the Friends of the Library to coordinate sales? Or will a local bookseller be there for an author visit?

  3. What audio-visual equipment is needed? Should library provide or does performer provide?

  4. Should the program be held indoors or outdoors?

  5. Any special stage set up needed? For example, many magicians need to be against a backdrop or wall so audience cannot see the back of the magician. Or some dance groups need special flooring (not cement).

  6. Do you have a parking place reserved for the performer? Do they need to park in a certain space if they have a lot to unload (like a puppeteer)?

  7. Publicity — press release to local newspaper, flyers to local schools, outreach to local daycares, preschools, summer programs, etc.

  8. Are tickets needed to gauge how many will attend? Is the program free?

  9. Refreshments needed?

  10. Will you have a book display of library materials relating to the program for audience to check out? Need extra circulation staff?

  11. Any extra staff or volunteers needed? Need ushers, etc.?

  12. Is there anything special the performer would like you to say in the introduction, or at the conclusion of the program?

  13. Anything else we should be thinking about?
