This poem was written about Alexander Leslie, a famous Scottish General, who fought as the head of the army for Gustavus Adolphus, the King of Sweden. His castle is in the county of Fyfe in Scotland near the town of Glenrothes. I am trying to find the exact reference, but I believe that the crooked man referred to his physical condition, but the crooked sixpense is a dig by his ememies about being paid off by the King of England in some political issue.
