*CENSORED* Mother Goose RhymesPosted by Ami on September 01, 2001 at 21:55:41: I found this book today at a sale its titles " CENSORED " Mother Goose Rhymes. Inside the first page it has MOTHER GOOSE ONE HUNDRED FIFTH AVENUE NEW YORK ...MCMXXlX The first copyright is 1926, by Kendall Banning the 2nd is 1929, by Kendall Banning ... Theres a notation on the 2nd page that reads " Dedicated to THE CENSORS who have taught us how to read naughty meanings into harmless words. The book gose on page by page with the rymes but blocked out words Ex: OLD MOTHER GOOSE Old Mother Goose, when She wanted to BLOCK Would BLOCK a fat goose or a very fine gander. Then at the bottom in brackets it says (An odd conceit for an old lady.) This goes on page by page ryme by ryme and finally on the back page POSTSCRIPT it reads These rymes have given pleasure to generations and this version makes a new claim as amusing non-sense. But even more impotant than jingle or nonsense is the clear demonstration made here of the effect of censorship upon anything it touches. Signed Mother Goose. I guess my question is can anyone explain to me what this book was about ? Why was it published ? Followups:
