The history of Mother Goosery is full of pieces that started out as separate and were so similar that troubadours joined them in folk tradition. The Fly and the Bumblebee dates back to at least 1740. You'll find one of the longest combinations (18 verses) in "Mother Goose: from Nursery to Literature" by Gloria T. Delamar.
