Sorry - can't help. It certainly isn't among the more known "Mother Goose" rhymes - though it does have the patter of a "nursery" rhyme. From the wording, I would guess that it is a second (or even later) verse to something that started with a first verse opening with "I had a ____ friend...." I could find nothing that related to it, though.
