The image that is conjured now in the minds of people when speaking of witches is a hag like woman with a pointy hat and broomstick. This image comes from the 1600 witch hunts, the pointy hat was the style in that time period, and because that is the time most people think of when it comes to witches that is the image that sticks. Some historians do believe that Mother Goose has helped to keep that image alive.
